Apples for processing decrease in price in Russia and Ukraine
According to Fruit-Inform, purchasing prices of apples for processing decreased both in Russia and Ukraine this week. The sharpest decrease rate was registered in Ukraine: by 28% down to UAH 0.55-0.90/kg (EUR 0.05-0.09/kg). As regards Russia, producers' attempts to maintain prices within previous levels were not crowned with success: this week processing factories purchased apples at RUB 3.40-3.70/kg (EUR 0.08-0.09/kg) that was 8% lower week-on-week.
The main reason for lower prices is a seasonal increase in the supply in the market. It should also be noted that high apple production is expected both in Russia and Ukraine in the current season that also does not give hope of high prices to growers. In addition, due to unfavorable weather conditions, many apples fell off, therefore farmers had to reduce prices to sell non-standard produce.
We would remind you that in the same period of the previous season prices of apples for processing were significantly higher. In Ukraine, farmers sold their produce at UAH 0.90-1.30/kg (EUR 0.09-0.13/kg), while Russian growers – at RUB 4.90-6.00/kg (EUR 0.12-0.15/kg).
