Lower fruit and vegetable prices in Ukraine

Fruit-Inform's fresh produce price price index shows that fruit and vegetable prices decreased by 5.4% in Ukraine last week. A decrease in prices was expected in the country after too sharp growth in August. Nevertheless, as of early September, fruit and vegetable prices were averagely 20% higher compared with early July.

“Lower fresh produce price index was mainly a result of a decrease in prices of potatoes and traditional vegetables, as the supply of these categories started growing last week thanks to households' more active harvesting campaign”, Mr. Andriy Yarmak, Author of Fruit-Inform Project, says. “In the autumn period, significant fluctuations in fresh produce price index will be observed due to seasonal changes in the Ukrainian fruit and vegetable basket”, the expert adds.

Last week, cucumbers also fell in price due to higher supply of the second crop in the market. At the same time, tomato prices slightly grew in view of unfavorable weather conditions that led to lower output. As regards fruit prices, they mostly did not change last week.
