Ukrainian apple producers lose their share in the internal market
In the past 3 years, the share of domestic apples has been steadily decreasing in the Ukrainian market. If in the season 2010/11 domestic apples had accounted for 80% of the market, then by the season 2011/12 the share of domestic producers decreased to 69%.
According to Fruit-Inform, in the next season the imports' share will grow again and amount to at least 34% thanks to high production in Poland which is the main supplier of apples to the Ukrainian market.
According to WAPA data, in 2012 Polish producers will pick no less than 2.8 mln tonnes of apples, and Poland will be one of few EU countries with an increase in apple production year-on-year.
