Russia's pear imports grow

According to Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, in the season 2011/12, the country imported about 500,000 tonnes of pears that was almost 10% higher year-on-year.

Argentina was the main exporter of pears to Russia with the share of 25%. Russia's imports from the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland were significant too. According to the market experts, in the nearest few years, Russia will be increasing its pear imports. Despite the domestic production development, produced volumes still cannot cover the Russian pear market demand fully.

At the same time, thanks to Russia's accession to the WTO this summer, importers will have more opportunities to increase pear sales inside the country. We would remind you that Russia's import duties on pears will be reduced from 10% to 5% by 2015.
