Average annual prices of apples decrease in Ukraine
A decrease in average annual prices of apples is one of the major trends in the Ukrainian fruit market. The main reason for decreasing prices is the saturation of the internal market with domestic produce.
According to Fruit-Inform, only in the past 3 seasons, average annual prices of apples have fallen by 15% in Ukraine. Moreover, the negative trend will only be intensifying in the nearest few years. The point is that the Ukrainian apple storage capacity has sharply grown in the past 5 years that led to more even distribution of local apples within a season. On the one hand, it enables Ukrainian farmers to exert more significant pressure on the market. On the other hand, this factor gradually smooths a seasonal jump in apple prices in the second half of the season that leads to considerably smaller opportunity to make business by storing apples in Ukraine.
