Lower Ukrainian apple exports in summer

Ukrainian apple exports have decreased 1.5 times in summer 2012 and amounted only to 1,900 tonnes with Russia accounting for the biggest share in total exports.

High prices of Ukrainian produce are still the most important obstacle in exports. For the present, Ukrainian exporters need high-quality apples of at least 60+ caliber at prices not exceeding 0.30 euro/kg. In such a way, only some Ukrainian farmers agree to those conditions with the majority of them hoping for higher prices in winter.

We would remind you that Fruit-Inform estimates Ukrainian apple prices to be 15-20% lower year-on-year in the season 2012/13 due to high competition in the domestic and Russian markets. Moreover, even the most optimistic forecasts show that Ukraine's apple exports will not be higher year-on-year.
