Ukraine increases pear exports to Russia in summer
In July-August 2012, Ukraine exported 265,000 tonnes of pears to the Russian Federation that was 2% higher year-on-year.
Ukraine annually exports 500,000-700,000 tonnes of pears with Russia being almost the only export market for this product over the past 10 years. In the past 3 years, the lowest export volumes were registered in the previous season when Ukraine exported only 479,000 tonnes of pears. Since 2009, the average export volumes amounted to about 750,000 tonnes.
The Ukrainian pear export season is characterized by its short length. Almost a half of all export volumes is registered in summer with the peak of supplies falling on August-September. As a rule, last shipments for exports are reported by Ukrainian farmers in October.
