Lower pear production expected in Russia
According to Foreign Agricultural Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, in the season 2012/13, Russian pear production will decrease by 21% year-on-year and amount to 110,000 tonnes.
The experts connect a drop in production with lower yields in Russian orchards due to February frosts. Moreover, they expect Russia's pear imports to be 17% lower due to a decrease in production in the majority of European countries.
We would remind you that Belgium and the Netherlands are the main pear exporters to the Russian Federation. According to preliminary estimates, in 2012, pear production in those countries will decrease by 21% and 41%, respectively.
