South Africa to increase pear exports
According to Foreign Agricultural Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, in the season 2012/13, South Africa will export about 190,000 tonnes of pears that will be 6% higher year-on-year.
The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Russia are the main export markets for South African pears with their shares in total exports amounting to 28%, 10% and 9%, respectively.
Fruit-Inform experts say of South African suppliers having a good chance to increase exports due to lower pear production in the mentioned countries.
We would remind you that FAS analysts expect South African growers to pick 370,000 tonnes of pears that will be a record high result over the past 5 seasons.
