Romania increases Idared apple production
Idared apple production has been rapidly growing in Romania over the past 3 seasons. According to WAPA (World Apple & Pear Association) data, Romanian growers are expected to pick 84,000 tonnes of these apples in the season 2012/13 that is 70% higher year-on-year.
Nowadays, Idared apples enter the group of top-three most popular varieties in the country and are behind only Jonathan and Golden Delicious. As regards these apples, Jonathan production will be 6% lower (106,000 tonnes), while the harvest of Golden Delicious apples will grow by 19% to 94,000 tonnes.
It should also be noted that Idared apples will account for the share of about 20% in Romania's total apple production, while the shares of Jonathan and Golden Delicious varieties will amount to 26% and 23%, respectively.
