Only three EU countries able to increase pear production in 2012/13

According to WAPA (World Apple & Pear Association) estimates, only three EU countries will be able to increase pear production in the season 2012/13: Hungary, Greece and Czech Republic.

WAPA analysts expect Hungary's pear production to grow by 24% year-on-year. If in the previous season growers picked only 21,000 tonnes of these fruits, then in the season 2012/13 harvested volumes will reach 26,000 tonnes.

Greece's pear production will be 21% higher and amount to 44,000 tonnes, while Czech farmers will double their last year's result to 6,000 tonnes.

At the same time, the market analysts forecast a pear crop failure in other EU countries and call the season 2012/13 the worst one over the past decade.
