Russia lowers pear imports
Russia has imported 120,000 tonnes of pears since the start of this season that, according to Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, was 13% lower year-on-year. Imports were coming mainly from Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands. Taking into account WAPA (World Apple & Pear Association) estimates of an aggregate decrease of 30% in pear production in these countries, Russia's lower imports are not a surprise.
We would remind you that the Russian Federation's pear crop is expected to be lower too. According to USDA forecasts, Russian growers will pick 110,000 tonnes this year that is 21% lower compared with the previous season.
