Ukrainian fresh produce price index stabilizes
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index stabilized last week. In the period from January 12 to January 18, 2013, it decreased by 0.3% after a fall of 3.6% a week earlier. At the same time, we would remind you that fruit and vegetable prices became averagely 40% higher in December 2012.
“A slight decrease in the fresh produce price index was registered due to low demand for fruits in Ukraine (citrus and bananas primarily) that forced sellers to reduce prices in view of their large supply in the market”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “At the same time, the price index of traditional vegetables was 5% higher last week thanks to an increase of 28.6% in onion prices”.
Further growth of onion exports was one of the most important events in the Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market last week. Thanks to higher exports, top-quality onion stocks were rapidly decreasing in the country that made Ukrainian supermarkets think about a possibility to ensure high-quality onion offer for their customers in the nearest future.
We would remind you that more information about current developments and future prospects in the Ukrainian and Russian fruit and vegetable markets is available for subscribers of Fruit-Inform Weekly service package.
