Ukraine: Great Lent's no effect on potato and vegetable prices
According to Fruit-Inform, the beginning of Great Lent, when religious people abstain from consuming foods of animal origin, led to no changes in the Ukrainian potato and vegetable market despite growers' expectations. Furthermore, the supply of low-quality produce kept on growing. Growers are ready to sell it almost for free, and this also negatively affects prices of high-quality products.
Slightly higher interest is shown by exporters who are more actively purchasing onions, carrots and Chinese cabbage. However, only high-quality produce offered at minimum prices is in demand. Taking into account difficult situation in the internal market, Ukrainian farmers often agree to sell large volumes at prices considered low just two weeks ago.
A slight increase in prices was registered only in some western regions, where snowfalls led to logistics problems.
