Poland's table beet exports down in 2012
According to the official statistics, Poland's table beet exports went down by 23% (5,100 tonnes) year-on-year in 2012 and reached just 16,800 tonnes.
A decrease in exports was caused by lower interest from the Central and Eastern Europe, especially from the Russian importers. However, higher shipments to the EU countries partially compensated a decrease in Poland's total table beet exports.
Central and Eastern Europe imported just 2,100 tonnes of Polish table beets in 2012, a decrease of 85.6% from 14,600 tonnes of exports in 2011. Russia reduced imports by 10,000 tonnes year-on-year.
As regards the EU countries, they increased imports of Polish table beets by 101.4% to 14,700 tonnes in 2012 with main volumes being exported to Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Germany and Hungary.
