Record high exports of Ukrainian carrots and beetroots in March
A sharp increase in prices of traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbage, beetroots, carrots) in Ukraine over the previous four weeks was connected with strong demand for Ukrainian vegetables outside the country. According to State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the country exported 5,800 tonnes of carrots and beetroots in March 2013, the highest result for this month and 71 times of exports in March 2012, when prices of these vegetables had been at least 50% lower, and their quality had been higher.
In addition, over the first 9 months of the season 2012/13, Ukraine also exported record high 11,900 tonnes of carrots and beetroots, 20 times of exports over the same period of the previous season.
Russia, Moldova and Belarus were the main target markets for Ukrainian exporters. Russia accounted for 69% of Ukraine's total carrot and beetroot exports. Moldova's share amounted to 24%. Belarus purchased 4% of exported vegetables.
