Ukraine starts importing Egyptian early potatoes
According to Fruit-Inform, Ukrainian importers started purchasing Egyptian early potatoes. The demand for them is rather low now due to their relatively high prices compared with last year's domestic crop.
Current wholesale prices of Egyptian potatoes vary between UAH 8-10/kg (EUR 0.76-0.95/kg) and are three-four times of prices for domestic potatoes.
However, importers are sure that the demand for Egyptian produce will start growing in early May, when Ukrainian farmers' stocks will be more exhausted leading to higher prices. In addition, domestic early potatoes will appear one and a half – two weeks later than usual in Ukraine due to late spring.
