Ukraine: no imports of Polish carrots in 2012
According to Freshmarket.ru, Poland exported 23,600 tonnes of carrots in 2012, a decrease of 24% from the previous year. Lower exports are connected with a decrease of 43.4% in shipments to Central and Eastern Europe.
In particular, according to Fruit-Inform, Ukrainian importers did not purchase Polish carrots in 2012 at all, while a year before imports had reached 3,800 tonnes with Poland being one of the leading carrot exporter to Ukraine.
At the same time, Ukraine keeps on breaking records in carrot exports. Ukraine's exports of carrots over the first nine months of the season 2012/13 amounted to record high 8,300 tonnes against just 41 tonnes in the same period of the previous season. Such a significant increase in exports is connected with higher carrot production in Ukraine in 2012.
