Ukrainian apple season almost over

The Ukrainian apple season 2012/13 is almost over. Practically all Ukrainian farms have already sold their apple stocks and started preparing for the new season.

According to Fruit-Inform, despite good apple crop this year, the end of the season was almost the same compared with last year: apples from unequipped storage facilities have been sold by the end of winter, and last volumes from CA-storage facilities have been shipped in the mid-May.

The market experts also say of growers' unrealized expectations of higher prices in this season: average price levels were almost the same year-on-year. However, taking into account large supply in the market, the season may be considered successful in prices. Thanks to an increase in reference prices of imported apples in December, which led to 34% lower apple imports, Ukrainian growers managed to maintain prices at relatively high levels even despite rather small exports.

The next apple season is expected to start in Ukraine in the second half of July.

We would remind you that more detailed information on the Russian and Ukrainian apple market development and outlook will be presented at the 3rd International Conference “Apple Business of Ukraine & Russia – 2013”, which is to take place on August 15-16, 2013, Donetsk, Ukraine.
