Ukraine keeps on reducing fruit exports

According to Fruit-Inform, Ukraine continues to reduce fruit exports. Over the past 3 seasons, Ukrainian fruit exports decreased 3.6 times in the volume terms and 4.7 times in the value terms.

“Lower fruit exports are partially connected with an increase in internal consumption of fruits (apples especially)”, says Ms Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “On the other hand, Ukrainian produce has lost its competitiveness in the Russian market due to Russia's accession to the WTO, which led to lower import duties on fruits supplied from other countries”.

Apples, melons and watermelons jointly account for the shares of 91% and 96% in the export values and volumes, respectively. The market experts say that Ukrainian growers should pay more attention on fruit handling and marketing to be able to raise exports, as fruit production keeps on growing in the country.

More information about the Ukrainian apple market development, sector opportunities and export potential will be presented at the 3rd International Conference “Apple Business of Ukraine & Russia – 2013”, which is to take place on August 15-16, 2013, Donetsk, Ukraine.
