Sharp increase in tomato prices in Poland
The Polish tomato market participants say of current price instability in the country.
Last week's decrease in prices was followed by a sharp increase in price levels this week.
Last week prices of greenhouse tomatoes were decreasing and reached 3.00-3.70 euro/carton (6 kg). Some sellers were ready to sell tomatoes at 2.31 euro/carton. Growers said of abundant supply in the market and high competition with inexpensive imported produce.
However, this week tomatoes sharply grew in price in Poland. The price growth rate amounted to 40-50%. In such a way, prices currently vary between 3.70-4.16/carton (size B), 4.16-4.62 euro/carton (size BB) and 4.62-5.08 euro/carton (size BBB).
