Slight increase in Turkish grape exports to Russia
According to the official statistics, Turkey shipped 133,000 tons of grapes to Russia in the season 2012/13, just slightly more than in the previous season.
Turkish exporters did not manage to increase exports significantly due to Russia's imports of grapes having been relatively stable over the previous 4 seasons. In addition, the competition in the Russian market is rather intense. Uzbekistan and Chile - Turkey's competitors in the Russian grape market - significantly decreased their exports to the Russian Federation in the season 2012/13. At the same time, Turkey managed to slightly raise its exports and remain the largest supplier.
We would remind you that Turkey has been leading in grape exports to Russia for the fifth season in a row. The country accounted for the share of 34% in Russia's total grape imports in the season 2012/13. Peak of exports was registered in September-October.
