Record high increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index grew by record high in the current season 16.4% in the week from September 28 to October 4 thanks to an increase of 20% in prices of traditional vegetables. In such a way, the Ukrainian fresh produce price index has been growing for a month and a half, and fruits and vegetables have already become averagely 50% more expensive over that period.
“Despite better weather and harvesting conditions last week, an increase in the supply of traditional vegetables was not enough to deter the price growth”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “At the same time, warming expected in the country this week may favor the market saturation and have a deterrent impact on prices”.
Last week, the highest growth rate was registered in the segment of potatoes, which became 26% more expensive. However, prices have stabilized by the end of the week thanks to growing supply of produce in the market.
Cucumber prices have also grown sharply: by 25% week-on-week. An increase in prices of table beets, carrots and greenhouse tomatoes was insignificant and had no special impact on the price index. White cabbage and citrus fruits slightly decreased in price last week.
