Sharp growth in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index grew by 7.5% in the week from October 12 to 18 despite lower prices of traditional vegetables and potatoes. In such a way, the price index has been growing in Ukraine for the eighth week in a row.
“A decrease in potato and vegetable prices was not enough to compensate higher prices of greenhouse vegetables, which became 47.7% more expensive last week”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “The price decrease rate in the segment of traditional vegetables also slowed down as farmers did not hasten to sell their produce hoping for shortage in supply in the second half of the season”.
Table beet prices decreased the most among traditional vegetables: by 5-7% last week. At the same time, prices of carrots and white cabbage did not change in the majority of cases. Among greenhouse vegetables, the sharpest increase rate was registered in the cucumber segment: by 60% week-on-week.
Fruit prices again decreased by 1.6% last week thanks to lower prices lemons and bananas. Apple prices were stable; oranges became more expensive.
