Russia leads in apple price decrease rates in Eastern Europe

Among Eastern European countries, prices of fresh apples have decreased the most in Russia over the past 3 seasons, which is shown by the study “Apples of Ukraine & Russia - 2013” annually conducted by Fruit-Inform analysts.

Apples have become 40% less expensive in Russia since the season 2010/11 with the sharpest price decrease rates registered in the season 2012/13. This was connected with the country's accession to the WTO, which led to lower import duties on apples. In addition, apple production in Russia was record high in 2012.

For comparison, in Poland, apple prices decreased just by 30% against a background of growing internal production. The slowest decrease rate were registered in Ukraine. In the period from the season 2010/11 to the season 2012/13, prices of Ukrainian apples have gone down just by 6%. Ukraine has been actively increasing its own production of apples and developing apple exports.

We would remind you that more detailed information about the Eastern European fruit and vegetable market developments will be presented at the 10th Anniversary International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine-2013”, November 26-28, 2013, International Exhibition Center, Kiev, Ukraine.
