Ukrainian fresh produce price index down
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index decreased by 3.4% in the week from October 26 to November 01, after a decrease of 4.5% a week earlier. In such a way, fruits and vegetables have become almost 8% less expensive over the past 2 weeks. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian price index is still significantly higher year-on-year.
“Traditional vegetables kept on decreasing in price in the end of October thanks to a seasonal factor: farmers carried on harvesting campaign due to favorable weather conditions”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “Due to growing supply, the sharpest price decrease rates were registered in the white cabbage and carrot segments.”
Greenhouse vegetables also became less expensive. In particular, prices went down in the tomato segment, as pricing was under the influence of growing supply of inexpensive imported produce and almost no demand for Ukrainian tomatoes externally.
Prices of onions, table beets, potatoes, lemons and mandarins also slightly decreased last week. At the same time, the fresh fruit price index became slightly higher thanks to an increase in banana prices.
