Further increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index grew by 2.6% in the week from December 14th to 20th, after an increase of 7.1% a week before. In such a way, fruit and vegetable prices have become 36.5% more expensive over the previous 5 weeks.

“In addition to traditional vegetables, prices also grew in the segments of greenhouse vegetables and even fruits, which price levels have been stable over long period”, ”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “Fruit prices are expected to continue to grow during the pre-New-Year period and due to bad weather conditions in supplying countries (Turkey especially)”.

An increase in white cabbage prices was the most rapid last week: +36.4%. Onion prices kept on growing and reached record high levels. Greenhouse vegetables became 11.9% more expensive, and fruit prices went up averagely by 7.7%.

Despite a slight increase compared with the previous week, apple prices are still significantly lower year-on-year. Citrus prices started growing too. At the same time, the price growth in the segments of potatoes, table beets and carrots stopped.
