Russia: growers' prices of onions up

Fruit-Inform price monitoring shows an increase in prices of onions in Russia after two months of the price stability.

Current prices of onions in the southern regions of the country average 0.26-0.30 euro/kg, an increase of 7-10% week-on-week. It should also be noted that prices are 1.8-2 times of those registered a year before.

The price growth is traditionally observed in Russia during the seasons of relatively low production. For the present, Russian farmers have finished sales of onions from unequipped storage facilities and now offer high-quality produce at higher prices due to stable demand both in the domestic market and externally.

However, an increase in prices led to lower trading activity in the Russian onion market. Nevertheless, growers do not plan to reduce prices in view of relatively low stocks of high-quality onions in the country.

We would remind you that more detailed information about the current state and future developments in the Ukrainian and Russian market for potatoes and vegetables will be presented at the 6th International Conference “Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine-2014”, which will be held on February 20, 2014, President Hotel, Kiev, Ukraine.
