Ukraine: further decrease in fruit and vegetable prices

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index decreased by 6.2% in the week from January 11th to 17th. In such a way, fruits and vegetables have become averagely 11.5% less expensive in Ukraine since the New Year holidays due to a sharp decrease in the internal demand.

“A fall in fruit and vegetable prices is traditionally observed in the first half of January”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “Last year a decrease was less significant: just -3.9% over two weeks. At the same time, the price levels in the beginning of 2013 were considerably lower than now”.

Greenhouse vegetables made the most significant contribution to the price fall, as they became a third less expensive since January 1. Prices of traditional vegetables and potatoes went down by 7.1% and 4.4%, respectively. Fruits decreased in price by 6%.
