Spanish fruit and vegetable exports to Russia down
Spanish fruit and vegetable export volumes to non-EU countries increased by 2% up to September 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, totalling 614,743 tonnes, according to the Department of Customs and Special Taxes of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
The main non-EU destination for Spanish fruit and vegetables was, once again, Russia, with 167,256 tonnes, followed by Switzerland and Norway.
Spanish exports to Russia between January and September 2013 registered a 12% drop compared to the same period in 2012, mainly due to the drop in fruit export volumes, which fell from 160,644 tonnes in 2012 to 126,718 tonnes in 2013 (-21%).
On the other hand, export volumes to Switzerland and Norway during the specified period increased. Switzerland received a total of 104,084 tonnes (+13%) and Norway totalled 65,799 tonnes (+8%).
