Ukrainian fresh produce price index up due to frosts
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has grown by 0.7% in the week from January 18th to 24th, after a fall of 6.2% a week before. At the same time, fruit and vegetable prices are still 10.8% lower compared with the beginning of the year 2014.
«An increase in the fresh produce price index was insignificant last week and registered due to an increase in prices of potatoes and traditional vegetables connected with lower temperature in the majority of Ukrainian regions", says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «This led to lower sales from unequipped storage facilities, which resulted in an overall decrease in the supply in the market".
At the same time, despite frosts, fruit prices decreased by 1.4% last week, and greenhouse vegetables became 0.6% less expensive. The sharpest increase in prices was registered in the white cabbage segment: up by 15.4%.
