Russia: potato prices up
According to Fruit-Inform, potato prices are going up in the Russian market.
Farmers from the central regions of Russia offered potatoes at 0.27-0.33 euro/kg on January 24, 2014, an increase of 8-14% week-on-week. The price growth is connected with a seasonal increase in supply and stable demand for potatoes in the country. At the same time, the market experts say of the quality of produce being rather low compared with the same period of the previous year.
Potato prices have also doubled in Russia year-on-year, which is connected with a decrease in Russia's potato production and limitation of imports from the EU. We would remind you that the EU countries are the main exporters of potatoes to Russia during winter period in the shortage seasons. For example, in January 2011, the Netherlands accounted for the share of more than a half in Russia's total potato imports.
More detailed information about the current state and future developments in the Ukrainian and Russian market for potatoes and vegetables will be presented at the 6th International Conference “Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine-2014”, which will be held on February 20, 2014, President Hotel, Kiev, Ukraine.
