Russia reduces apple butter imports
Russia has reduced imports of apple butter by 30% in the first half of the season 2013/14, according to the official statistics. The import volumes stood at 8,400 tons, the lowest result over the past 4 years.
The market participants connect such a sharp decrease in imports with abundant supply of both imported and domestic produce in the market. For that reason, Russia's imports of apple butter in November-December 2013 were insignificant.
In the first half of the current season, Chile and Iran, the leading exporters of apple butter to Russia, reduced exports by 18% and 14%, respectively. Chile's exports totaled 4,400 tons, while Iranian exporters sold 2,700 tons of apple butter to the Russian Federation.
