Ukraine: record high imports of pears in January
Ukrainian importers purchased record high volumes of pears in January 2014, according to the official statistics.
Imports stood at 1,500 tons, almost 4.5 times as high as in January 2013. Ukraine's cumulative imports of pears in July 2013 - January 2014 totaled 3,500 tons, an increase of 17% compared with the same period of the previous season.
An increase in Ukraine's total pear imports is connected with higher exports from Poland, the leader in pear exports to Ukraine. The Netherlands and Greece ranked second and third, respectively.
