Ukraine: record low imports of Polish apples in January
Ukraine's imports of Polish apples were record low in January 2014, according to the official statistics.
Imports stood at just about 1,000 tons, 57% lower than in the same month of the previous year. Ukraine's cumulative imports of apples from Poland in the first 7 months of the current season also fell to record low and totaled 3,000 tons, half of the import volumes in the same period of the previous season.
Lower imports from Poland are connected with too high prices of imported apples in Ukraine simultaneously with steady supply of relatively inexpensive domestic apples in the market.
Despite a decrease in shipments, Poland is still the largest exporter of apples to Ukraine with the share of about 90% in Ukraine's total imports over July 2013 – January 2014.
