Ukraine: fruit and vegetable prices up by 10% in February

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index shows an increase of 9.8% in fruit and vegetable prices in February 2014. We would remind you that the price index went down by 2.3% in the same period of the previous year.

“The fresh produce price index grew in February due to a fall in Ukrainian hryvnia exchange rate and a sharp decrease in stocks of high-quality produce compared with the previous year”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “Fruit and vegetable prices are now averagely twice as high as in February 2013, which negatively affects produce consumption”.

The sharpest increase of 19.2% was registered in fruit prices. Cucumbers and tomatoes became 13.1% more expensive. Traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbage, carrots, table beets) grew in price by 7.4%. Potato prices went up by 8%.

We would remind you that more detailed information about current developments in the Russian and Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market is available for the subscribers of Fruit-Inform service packages.
