Russia's imports of fresh fruits and vegetables up in 2013

Russia imported 8.4 mln tons of fresh fruits and vegetables in 2013 against 8 mln tons a year before. Russia's fresh fruit and vegetable imports in the value terms stood at 6.2 bln euro against 6 bln euro in 2012.

Ecuador, Turkey and Poland were the largest exporters to the Russian Federation in 2013. Ecuador led thanks to its expansion in the Russian banana market. Turkey was the key supplier of tomatoes and citrus fruits. Poland was a steady leader in apple exports to Russia. Apples should also be noted as a fruit accounting for the share of about three-fourths in Poland's total fresh fruit and vegetable exports to the Russian Federation in 2013.

China was the fourth largest supplier with apples, citrus fruits and tomatoes as leading export categories. Exporting mainly tomatoes, nectarines and peaches, Spain ranked fifth and was followed by Morocco (citrus fruits) and Israel that led in carrot and bell pepper exports to Russia.
