Ukraine: prices of imported frozen berries up by 50% since beginning of spring
According to Fruit-Inform, prices of imported frozen berries keep on growing in Ukraine in April.
An increase in prices is connected with the devaluation of Ukrainian hryvnia. Furthermore, importers reduce import volumes due to instable situation in the currency market in Ukraine.
As a result, prices have gone up by 15-20% since the beginning of April. Compared with early spring 2014, imported frozen berries have already become about 50% more expensive in Ukraine.
The price growth is also backed by processors' high demand for frozen berries. Processors usually account for the share of 70% in total sales of those products. The market analysts believe that prices could have grown even more significantly if not for a decrease in purchase volumes of retailers (the share of 15% in total sales) that were not interested in purchasing under those conditions.
It should be noted that Ukraine's imports of frozen vegetable mixes and berries peak in March-April. As a rule, imports in this period account for 35-40% of total import volumes.
We would remind you that more detailed information about the Ukrainian frozen berry market development will be presented at the 5th International Conference “Berries of Ukraine-2014: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market” which is to take place on May 22-23, 2014, Feride Plaza, Vinnytsia, Ukraine.
