Ukraine: how will production areas under Chinese cabbage change in 2014?

According to Fruit-Inform, the previous Chinese cabbage season was rather successful for Ukrainian growers. Prices in November, the period of mass harvesting and storing, were three times as high as in 2012 and doubled in April having reached record high levels of UAH 12-13/kg (EUR 0.73-0.79/kg).

Despite that, the majority of farmers do not plan to significantly expand production areas under Chinese cabbage as they are concerned that an increase in production in 2014 may lead to the opposite situation. In general, farmers plan their production areas taking into account available storage capacity.

At the same time, seed companies say of a significant increase in the demand for Chinese cabbage seeds this year that shows potential expansion of areas and growth in production. Farmers will take final decision no earlier than in September, right before the start of the sowing campaign.

How will the Ukrainian growers' plan change? This and many other questions are answered in the fundamental study «Fruit & Vegetable Market of Ukraine-2014: Results and Forecasts for the Next Season».
