Ukrainian fresh produce price index down by 40% over two weeks
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 16.8% in the week from July 4th to 11th, after a decrease of 23.5% a week before. Thus, the price index has become 40% lower over the past two weeks.
«A seasonal decrease in fruit and vegetable prices gathered pace last week due to weather conditions favorable for harvesting», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «The main contribution to a fall in prices was made by potatoes and traditional vegetables that became 23.4% less expensive over a week».
A decrease of a third in tomato prices should also be noted. Negative price performance was connected with more active harvesting of field-grown tomatoes in the southern regions of Ukraine that also led to a decrease in prices of greenhouse tomatoes. At the same time, cucumber prices went up by 25% thanks to the start of processors' procurement season.
Fruit prices also kept on going down. A fall in prices was registered in the segments of melons, watermelons and peaches that also had a decrease in prices of bananas and mandarins as a consequence. Only raspberry prices slightly went up.
