Ukraine will increase exports of diary products - AP Ministry
According to Ukraine's Deputy Agrarian Policy Minister Yuri Melnyk, exports of diary products from Ukraine will increase 10 to 15 percent this year.
"In order to export Ukrainian produce to West European countries, we are negotiating with representatives of European Commission the export quotas and correspondence of our diary products control standards to western ones", Melnyk said to a TV programme on the Ukrainian 1st national channel on Sunday.
He said in 2003 Ukraine had exported a $300 worth of diary products, in particular - hard cheeses (about 40 percent of the total export), milk canned products, dry milk, casein and butter. The import of diary products was $25 million.
Over the four months of this year the export of diary products from Ukraine totalled $67 million, the import - $5 million.
According to AP Ministry's forecasts, production of milk in Ukraine in 2004 will drop to 3 to 4 percent from last year. The share of imports on Ukrainian diary products market is currently 0.5 to 1 percent.
