Ukraine in line for quintupling apple exports

Russia's ban on imports of Moldovan and Polish apples enables Ukraine to regain a status of the largest apple exporter to the Russian Federation. Fruit-Inform analysts believe that tensions between Poland, Moldova and Russia may favor a significant increase in Ukrainian apple exports. We would remind you that Ukraine had been annually increasing exports of apples before 2011, and shipments for exports were one of the main sales channels for the majority of large Ukrainian apple farms. The situation changed in 2012, when Russia became more open for European apples after its accession to the WTO, and Ukrainian produce's competitive ability sharply fell in the external market. In connection with that, Ukraine's apple exports now take just a fifth of those registered just three seasons before.

The market experts believe that Ukrainian apple growers now stand a good chance to regain their presence in the Russian market under conditions of active ban on imports from Poland and Moldova, the countries that have been the leading apple suppliers in the past years.

We would remind you that more detailed information about the Ukrainian apple market developments and outlook will be presented at the 4th International Conference “Apple Business of Ukraine-2014”. The conference will be held on August 14-15, 2014, Feride Plaza, Vinnytsia, Ukraine. More detailed information about the event is available on the official web-site.
