Ukraine: AJC prices may reach record low over past 5 years

According to Fruit-Inform, prices of AJC (apple juice concentrate) may fall to the lowest levels over the past 5 years in Ukraine.

Such a forecast is based on Russia's ban on imports of juice products from Ukraine, which makes processors seek for new sales markets for their produce. It should be noted that Russia was the second after Poland largest importer of Ukrainian juices. The situation is also aggravated by abundant transit stocks in the European market.

Under those conditions, the majority of Ukrainian juice factories have already announced their plans to reduce AJC manufactured volumes by at least a third compared with the previous year. Furthermore, some processors plan to stop manufacturing AJC at all.

Meanwhile, the market participants expect prices of unclarified AJC to go down by 30-50% in Europe to about 450 euro per MT against 800-950 euro per MT in the season 2013/14. At the same time, prices of clarified AJC may fall to 700-800 euro per MT, a decrease of about a third year-on-year.

We would remind you that Ukraine was the second after China largest exporter of AJC to Russia in the previous season with the share of about 30% in Russia's total AJC imports.

More detailed information about the Eastern European AJC market developments will be presented at the 7th International Conference «Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia-2014», which is to be held on September 16, in conjunction with the largest food exhibition in Russia WorldFood Moscow 2014.
