Russia: onion yields reach record high over past 5 years
According to Fruit-Inform, in the previous year, onion yields in Russia were the highest over the past 5 years.
Yields grew by 27% compared with 2012 and averaged 23.2 MT/ha.
Onion yields in Russia were a third higher than in Ukraine and just 3% lower than in Poland. A sharp increase in yields is connected with solid investments in onion production in the southern regions of Russia. Furthermore, a number of farms growing onions with the use of drip irrigation has only been increasing that positively impacts yields.
Furthermore, Russia was the only country among above-listed that had seen an increase in onion yields in 2013. Onion yields in Ukraine averaged 17.4 MT/ha, a decrease of 2% year-on-year, and Polish growers' yields went down by 5% to 24 MT/ha.
We would remind you that more detailed information about the Russian onion market will be presented at the 7th International Conference «Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia-2014», which is to be held on September 16, in conjunction with the largest food exhibition in Russia WorldFood Moscow 2014.
