Turkey starts the citrus export season
According to FreshPlaza, Turkey's citrus export season has officially started on 18 September, as reported by the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association and the president of the Citrus Promotion Group, Ali Kavak. Last year, the country shipped 1.37 mln tons of citrus fruits generating $931 million in revenue.
Kavak stated that «our citrus exports have increased mostly in Russia, Ukraine and Germany. In 2013, Turkey exported citrus to a total of 102 countries, with a 7% increase in the value of these shipments. This year, the goal remains to complete a good season and continue expanding».
According to Fruit-Inform, Turkey is a traditional leader in citrus exports to Russia and Ukraine with the share of more than 25% in Russia's total imports and more than a half in Ukraine's ones.
