Ukrainian fresh produce price index down after an increase a week before

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 3.6% in the week from October 4th to 10th, after an increase of 8.5% a week before.

«Night frosts in the majority of the Ukrainian regions had provoked the end of the season of field-grown vegetables, which enabled greenhouse growers to raise their prices», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Nevertheless, the price growth in the segment of greenhouse vegetables was compensated by an ongoing decrease in prices of potatoes and traditional vegetables as well as lower fruit prices».

Onions again became less expensive, and the price decrease rates only intensified last week. The situation in the onion segment is now characterized by a slight panic among growers, who still fail to find additional target markets for their produce. Fruit prices went down thanks to lower price levels of citrus fruits, which harvesting gathers pace in the Northern Hemisphere countries.
