Poland to promote soft fruits in Europe
An agreement is to be signed for the launch of a campaign promoting the consumption of Polish soft fruits in the European markets. The three-year budget for these activities will be 4 million Euro, of which more than 20% will come from the Fund for the Promotion of Fruit and Vegetables.
"With the implementation of promotional campaigns in Poland, Austria, Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic, we want to create a positive image for products like highbush blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackcurrants, and thus boost their consumption," highlights Miroslaw Maliszewski, president of the Association of Polish Fruit-Growers, who is coordinating the initiative.
He added that Polish soft fruit has the quality to compete both in the European market and globally. "Their reputation is quite high; today, 80% of the country's highbush blueberry production is exported," he added.
Poland's berry production currently stands at about 500,000 tonnes per year, which accounts for 15% of all fruits.
