Russia sharply reduces plum imports
Russia has significantly reduced plum imports in the current season, according to the official statistics.
The import volumes over January-November 2014 stood at just 41,000 tons, a decrease of 45% year-on-year. The sharpest year-on-year fall in imports was registered in November 2014, when the import volumes took just the tenth of imports in November 2013.
«In the previous year, Russia started actively importing Moldovan plums in the mid-August», says one of the leading importers. «This year we have faced several problems with sourcing, as after introduction of the ban on imports of Moldovan fruits we have lost one of the most significant suppliers of plums».
Moldova should be noted as the country that supplied up to 35% of all plums imported by Russia in 2013. This year Moldovan plum export volumes tend towards zero.
