Ukraine: fresh produce price index up for third month in a row
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went up by 5.9% in the week from January 24th to 30th, after an increase of 3% a week before. As a result, the price index has been growing in Ukraine for the third month in a row and has become more than 74% higher over that period.
«Higher prices were again registered in all fresh produce categories last week: traditional vegetables, fruits, greenhouse vegetables», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Traditional vegetables and potatoes became more expensive thanks to higher exports».
Ukrainian exporters actively shipped onions to the Middle East countries, and onion prices have grown by a third week-on-week. Ukrainian companies also managed to raise exports of carrots and potatoes to Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Russia through Crimea. As a result, prices of traditional vegetables went up by 13.8%, and potatoes became 10% more expensive.
Prices of greenhouse vegetables went up by 4% week-on-week, and their consumption continued to decrease. Fruits became 0.7% more expensive thanks to a slight increase in banana prices.
