Further increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went up by 1.4% in the week from January 31st to February 6th, after an increase of 5.9% a week before. As a result, fruit and vegetable prices have been growing in Ukraine for more than three months, and the price index has become 75% higher over that period.
«Prices of traditional vegetables kept on growing last week, while prices of greenhouse vegetables and potatoes stabilized», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «Fruits became slightly more expensive: an increase in banana prices was almost fully compensated by lower prices of oranges».
Rapid price growth rates were registered in the segments of white cabbage and onions: up by 33% and 40%, respectively. Carrots became 4.5% more expensive. Table beet prices were stable and remained the least expensive product among traditional vegetables in Ukraine. At the same time, onion prices were the highest among those vegetables thanks to a continuous increase in exporters' demand.
